Den making with the Ranger

Den making is a great team building exercise. Using natural materials you have to think about what is around you and how you can use it to make a den that you can fit inside. It is great to see children using their imaginations about why they have created their den, some are shipwrecked on a deserted island, some hunting pirates and some hiding from dragons. It is great to make a den that you can come back to and use as a base for other countryside activities, after all there is always something more that you can add to a den. You might want to organise a morning of shelter building with an afternoon of den making to give yourself a knowledge of basic structure building.

This den was made by the whole family but the youngest took over at the end to play

These boys even gave themselves a comfy grass carpet in their den
